The Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON) was established in 1983 with the broad objectives of promoting the understanding and enjoyment of Classical music in Nigeria, the promotion and performance of this genre of music, the education of children in the performance and theory of music and the fostering of interaction between Nigerian and non-Nigerian musicians as well as encouraging foreign musicians to perform on the MUSON stage and encouraging Nigerian musicians to perform outside the country.
MUSON also owns and runs a School of Music which is recognised by the Nigerian government to award Diploma Certificates after a two-year intensive course of study in areas such as piano, violin, voice, cello, string instruments and percussion. Since its inception the School has graduated about 200 students.
MUSON has a 30-man Orchestra conducted by our Artistic Director, Mr Thomas Kanitz. The Society also has a 30-man Choir under the Directorship of Mr Emeka Nwokedi who was recently awarded membership of the World Council of World Choir Judges.
